Why Acne Reoccurs
Acne may appear in different ages of our lives for different reasons. It may mainly and commonly appear during the youth, when hormonal changes causes a rapid flareup and buildup of sebum that may be a little troubling to calm down. Some may end this phase and experience little to no acne, but others may continue with adult acne.
Adult acne is a different from teenage hormonal acne in the way it is formed and caused. There may be varying reasons to why acne forms, anywhere from low estrogen levels during menstruation for women, skin reaction to skin products, atmospheric reactions, to even stress! The more sensitive your skin reacts to certain factors, the more likely acne will start to appear. Therefore, it is hard to pinpoint just one cause as there could be multiple factors taking a part in creating excess sebum secretion.
However, we can narrow down to two different factors: external and internal. For external factors, these include atmospheric reactions, skin products or excessive face touching. These are usually easily controllable and sometimes one of the main causes!
If you have started using a new skin product, sometimes the skin needs some time to ‘purge’. This means, the skin goes through a cycle of adjusting to the new product ingredients, causing a temporary breakout. If you feel that your acne has reduced even after using a new product, it may not be the main reason for your ongoing acne. However, if you feel that your acne is getting more severe, immediately stop using the product. It may contain allergens that are not suitable for your skin type.
On the other hand, internal factors include anywhere from estrogen/progesterone levels, gut health, stress levels, to reproductive health issues. These are typically a lot harder to spot and need initial attention first before the skin can be fully recovered.
