Summer is approaching and you’re excited about the beaches, the sun…but there’s just one problem: the dark spots. While a day at the beach may be the most exciting adventure of the summer, its the lasting, dark patches that just won’t seem to away. These brownish, grayish blobs of patches are known as melasma and we will be explaining just how you can get rid of them.

What Causes Melasma?
Melasma is complicated in that there are many different complex factors for its cause. There are three particular reasons including:
- Hormones- Fluctuations in hormones, especially with estrogen can cause an increase in production of melanin. This is why melasma is commonly found during pregnancy.
- Genetics- Melasma may have a genetic component, and if there is a genetic predisposition in the family, it is most likely to occur in the next generation as well.
- Sun exposure- Excess sun exposure without the use of proper UV sunscreen is the biggest culprit of melasma. When the body hits the sunlight, it triggers the production of melanin and with excess exposure, it creates damages of hyperpigmentation.
Do these factors sound familiar? If so, then you probably have been exposed to the main causes of melasma. Treating melasma is a tricky process; unlike freckles or other dark spots caused by blemishes, melasma does not go away immediately no matter the intensity of the laser treatment. Therefore, it is important to use a combination of treatments when handling melasma.
Does this mean my melasma will never go away?
Treatments can help melasma to fade in color, but to completely rid the dark spots requires a complex combination of treatments in frequent sessions. So, if you are wanting for these dark spots to fade away, it does take time and patience!
What Are the Treatments Offered in the Clinic?
LAMINE Skin Clinic offers a one day six-step program for those looking to truly fade the appearance of dark spots.

✅ Step 1: Using the Mark Vu facial analysis system, we diagnose the skin condition and determine how deep the pigmentation level is and how spread out the dark spots are on the skin. Based on this analysis, Dr. Kim decides the intensity and the level of laser treatment.
✅ Step 2: To prepare the face for the upcoming treatments, we first go in with a clearing process by removing the skin free of dead skin cells.
✅ Step 3: Using a combination of three complex lasers, Dr. Kim performs laser treatments each with different purposes. The combination of these lasers help to whiten the dark spots, increase collagen regeneration, and bring nutrients back into the skin. Based on your facial analysis, Dr. Kim determines how many shots will be used for your skin concern.
✅ Step 4: Vitamin C ample is applied all over the face before covering with a facial sheet for an ionzyme treatment. Using electricity, this treatment helps to seep the Vitamin C into the skin for a brightened effect.
✅ Step 5: To suppress melanin production and to promote the repairing of the skin tissues, we then prepare a high density whitening IV drip. This IV drip is full of glutathione and vitamins that help to maximize the effects of the laser treatments and to keep the skin barrier healthy.
✅ Step 6: The program ends with an aftercare of a modeling pack to cool the face post-laser treatment.

How often should I be getting this treatment?
These treatments will show some brightening effect but the best option is to build onto the results with more sessions. We know, it’s hard to come to our clinic, let alone South Korea regularly. That’s why we combined only the most effective treatments for a full day course so you can leave with some satisfying results for your dark spots. Back in your home country, we strongly recommend the combination of oral medications and home care to make the results last longer.
🌸 Tip: If you are looking for a consultation about melasma and dark spots with Dr. Kim, do ask her about oral medications!
