Spring is approaching soon and while that means it’s time for cherry blossoms, trench coats, and lots of outdoor activities, it also means…seasonal breakouts. Are you prone to blooming acne and flaky skin just like flowers during the spring? Or are you sensitive to a particular weather? At LAMINE Skin Clinic, we strive to take care of the irregularities caused by this season.

Why Do I Get Acne and Flareups During the Spring?

A number of triggers can set the oil glands working on overdrive, changing how the skin cells develop on the hair follicle. This irregularity clogs up the pores and easily traps bacteria and other types of debris. As this process continues without any exfoliation or special care, redness and inflammation may occur. If you’re in for some bad luck, you may also find yourself with a full-blown acne breakout in a combination of whiteheads or blackheads, pimples, and millets.

So what causes such breakouts? Well, springtime calls for a mixture of higher temperatures and humidity, along with high sun exposure that can lead to clogged pores and active acne. Some of the triggers for seasonal breakouts include:

  • Sweating: As the temperature rises, your body starts to sweat to cool down, and during the process it becomes dehydrated
  • Sebum overproduction: In order to maintain balance, the sebaceous glands overproduce oil to lock in moisture that may cause clogged pores
  • Inflammation: Increase exposure to UV light can provoke the skin’s inflammatory response and make it sensitive
  • Melanin: The skin can produce extra melanin during the healing process, but when exposed to the UV light, it can cause it to become darker

As you can see, there are many triggers for seasonal breakouts especially during the spring when the temperature is starting to become hotter and the humidity is starting to rise. So what can we do we prevent hiding breakouts and stop already formed breakouts?

Aqua Peel Exfoliation

Now you might be scared of exfoliation especially during the sensitive skin season. But do not worry! Aqua Peel is a type of exfoliation that removes dead skin cells and debris on the skin in a very gentle manner, while providing rehydration and proper nutrition back to the skin. This procedure is extremely delicate and gentle on the skin so it can be done before a laser treatment as a pre-treatment or alone.

Aqua Peel utilizes two chemicals: AHA and BHA as solutions for its treatment. You may have heard how both chemicals are excellent for acne-prone or oily skin. In fact, AHA is water-soluble and is effective in removing dead skin cells while promoting collagen cells. BHA on the other hand is fat-soluble, and mixes well with the oil in the skin to break down wastes on the face.

Just take a look at how the process works below!

While the process sounds pretty scary, the suction process is so gentle that you won’t feel anything. In fact, upon finishing the treatment, you will feel a sense of refreshment and cooling. As it is such a gentle procedure, Aqua Peel can be done more than once during the week. However, if your skin is heavily affected by acne, it is also recommended to reconsider the treatment.

Although Aqua Peel is a gentle and sensitive procedure, every skin type is different. A gentle treatment may be an irritant to one while to others it may not. At LAMINE Skin Clinic, we strive to take care of each skin one-on-one to find out if your skin type is suitable for this treatment before undergoing the procedure. So, make sure to book an appointment with us to find out more about how you can battle the seasonal breakouts!
